In March of 1978 my husband and I formed the Marine Mammal Stranding Center because there was a need for rescue and rehabilitation of stranded marine mammals and sea turtles that came ashore in the State of New Jersey. Prior to our organization, animals would be pushed back into the water or lie on the beach until they perished. In the past 45 years we have responded to over 6,000 strandings of these protected and endangered species. Utilizing volunteers, donations, grants and fundraisers to fund our work and pay a small staff, we have ensured that this project is successful. MMSC is the only authorized marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation facility in the State of New Jersey, and we are further committed to the preservation of our oceans and the education of the next generation through our Environmental Education and Outreach programs. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization.
