Sheila Asato, M.A., is a passionate educator, embodied imagination coach, artist, and Japan specialist. Her work focuses on the healing and spiritual aspects of working with imagery through dreams, art, and writing. She is also a cross-cultural trainer, providing customized training in cross-cultural psychology and communication for business people and their families. Asato holds a Master’s degree in Human Development, as well as a BA with honors in East Asian Studies and Fine Art. Bilingual in Japanese and English, she has taught and facilitated workshops in the US, Europe and Japan for over 25 years. In 2006, she received the IASD international student research award work for her original work on dreaming and creativity. Born and raised in the US, Asato has also lived and worked in Japan for nearly 15 years, and in the UK for almost 5 years. Her focus is on the self healing role creativity plays in helping people adapt successfully to challenging life circumstances such as caring for aging parents and having children, as well as specific circumstances that arise from being posted abroad. In particular, she has focused on how creative problem solving and personal expression can help people create healthy, whole lifestyles. As the mother of a child with autism, she is also deeply familiar with the particular challenges faced by families of children with special needs and the specific issues which can arise when such families are posted abroad and as well as when they return to their home countries. Ms. Asato is also a certified Embodied Imagination Coach.
