I am currently a student at the University of Illinois, interested in becoming a high school agriculture teacher in the Midwest. I am passionate about working with people and challenging myself and today's youth to go beyond what they are comfortable with. I did not grow up in traditional agriculture, so I learn something new every day about the industry. I am excited to educate students to be responsible and well-rounded consumers, and I am thankful for the opportunities at the University of Illinois and beyond that have prepared me to do so.

During the Spring Semester, I reviewed scholarly articles of past surveys conducted nationally of other Master Gardener programs and created a survey to be distributed to the Master Gardener volunteer population. Throughout the summer, I distributed the survey electronically, conducted interviews with Master Gardeners, and gathered observations of various community gardens and preservation areas in the Chicago Area. Soybean Field Service InternPrecision Soya May 2013 - Aug 2013Farmer City, IllinoisMy main responsibility of the summer was to conduct flowering inspections mainly in fields southeast of Farmer City. These walking inspections gave Precision Soya a detailed report and percentage of off type varieties in each field. This took several weeks of office preparation and I gathered mapping information from growers covering their total of 5,600 acres. These counts are important numbers for grower records, bin storage, and future warehouse inventory. Throughout the summer, I contacted growers, mapped soybean fields in Central Illinois, and inspected those fields during flowering for insects, variability in variety, disease, and other pests.
