About Shelby Smith

Broadly, I work on climate change and the interactions between carbon and water when implementing sustainable agricultural interventions. I enjoy driving deforestation and conversion-free supply chains through building supply chain traceability.I work with large, multinational, agricultural companies that have complex global supply chains. I work to refine qualitative and quantitative measurements of the impacts that greenhouse gas-reducing projects can have on carbon emissions. When working with these large corporations on their sustainable business strategy, I feel that making positive on-farm interventions creates a large impact on our global carbon & water footprints when it is scaled to thousands of individual farms on a global scale. Recently, I've been honing in on Land use change calculations, and Deforestation & conversion-free MRV and strategy. I'm passionate about: - Climate-Smart Agriculture and Food Systems- No-Deforestation Policies and Incentives- Water Resource Management- Regenerative Agriculture - Colorado River Water Supply Management- Arctic ResearchI'm curious about:- New MRV technology for agricultural practices and no-deforestation monitoring- Implementing market-based transfer mechanisms to further water sustainability for env + anthropogenic uses- Environmental Water Transactions- Conservation FinanceMy hobbies: - Climbing mountains with a pair of skis on my back for the way down- Packrafting wild and remote rivers- Mountain biking the local Bozeman trails- Hiking with my dog and partner- Spending time in the outdoors with my friends and family
