About Sheldon Blackshire

I have spent the last decade building telemetry devices that aid researchers in wildlife conservation. Unique challenges associated with tracking animals require multidisciplinary teams of engineers, technicians, and biologists. I specialize in coordinating these teams and also participating as a product/firmware designer. I enjoy defining requirements for animal tracking. This ultimately results in a combination of designing new circuit boards and architecting firmware to collect the necessary data. On occasion I am able to assist our biologists in attaching trackers. I am fortunate that I've only been attacked by a vulture once!I have been writing microcontroller firmware for around 10 years (Mostly in C/C++). Over the years I have enjoyed being a student of good firmware architecture. My favorite aspect of the embedded design is the process of experimenting with new paradigms and seeing them used in the field. While I don't specialize in PCB layout, I use hardware schematics, rework broken components, and do low level board validation.
