23 year NFL Executive Sheldon White was named Director of Pro Scouting for the Pittsburgh Steelers 06/01/2022 after finishing the 2022 NFL Draft as a College Scout for The Washington Commanders.He was on Michigan State’s football staff from 2016-2020. Sheldon was promoted to Executive Director of Player Personnel & Recruiting in June 2017 after spending the 2016 season as a Program Consultant.As Executive Director for College Football Hall of Fame Coach Mark Dantonio through February 2020, White's primary responsibilities included coordinating the evaluation of high school players and current players on the active roster. Dantonio became the winningest coach in MSU history before retiring after the 2019 season. He also played a lead role in organizing the recruiting efforts of the program and was the lead host when recruits were on campus for games, official and unofficial visits.In 2015, Sheldon led the Lions to a 6-2 (0.750) record after taking over all of the General Manager responsibilities, including final say of Player Personnel acquisitions. As of 2015, only 2 teams had finished 6-2 or better after beginning the season 1-7 in the last 15 seasons (2004 Carolina Panthers, 2015 Detroit Lions).As VP of Pro Personnel from 2009 - 2015, he reported directly to the GM & President. His team was responsible for evaluating all NFL players. White ran free agent meetings & was an integral part of the draft. He also negotiated draft choices & free agents. Additionally, White ran a scouting internship program & hired seasonal interns. Finally, he was responsible for the Lions official daily transactions & ensured that the team was in compliance with NFL Player Personnel rules & regulations.Sheldon was inducted into Miami University’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014. His football jersey has also been retired at Meadowdale High School in Dayton, OH.In 2012 & 2014, White was a recipient of the Johnnie Cochran Salute to Excellence award, alongside five general managers, two head coaches and former commissioner Paul Tagliabue. The awards in 2012 were given to Tagliabue & executives for high achieving teams from the 2011 season.In 2004, White completed the NFL’s career development program at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. He was also a keynote speaker at the event.Before joining the Lions in 1997, Sheldon was the WR Coach at Miami University from 1994-1997.White was drafted 62nd overall in the 1988 NFL Draft by the NY Giants and was their Rookie of the Year. He also played for the Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals through 1993.
