Assisted with USGS and University of Vermont research on habitat use of endangered Lake Sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) in Lake Champlain, Vermont. Assisted in the tagging of juveniles and monitoring with acoustic telemetry and sonar imaging and processed and analyzed fin spines for ageing. Duties also included gear building, sample processing, data analysis, and completion of progress reports.

Annapolis, Maryland

Oversaw and managed the “Fish Finder” Program: a citizen science project that involved working with recreational mariners in the temporary deployment of Vemco VR2W acoustic receivers. Duties included planning and recruitment, management of volunteers, management and analysis of data, and outreach through public engagement opportunities and social media.

Edgewater, Md

Assisted with the tagging and sampling of Atlantic coastal species of sharks and rays (Maryland, North Carolina, and Florida). Analyzed data for several projects including Cownose Ray (Rhinoptera bonasus) migrations, movement of Atlantic Sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus oxyrinchus), and collaborative Fish Finder Project with the Ocean Research Project. Contributed to (cownose rays) or led (Atlantic sturgeon) the preparation of two scientific manuscripts for this work.

San Jose, Costa Rica

Assisted in the analysis of shark fins that were confiscated during attempted international trade using both morphological and genetic tools at a university in San Jose, Costa Rica. Duties included organization and analysis of photos, extraction of DNA from shark fins, PCR and analysis of agarose gels. Contributed to the scientific manuscript for this work,

Spatial analysis of fatty acid signatures in Lake Michigan rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) to assess food web dynamics and to contribute to database for freshwater profiling of food web interactions. Included the extraction of lipids from fish tissue and analysis with gas chromatography.

Utila, Honduras

Collected data for photo-tracking of whale shark (Rhincodon typus) populations in Utila, Honduras through opportunistic freediving surveys. Completed fish population and coral health surveys via diving transects. Aided in community outreach through ecotours and community and school presentations.

Assisted in research on avian mortality in relation to bird-window collisions to contribute data to a national study. Completed surveys, recorded and identified bird specimens, and analyzed data.
