Big Data Platform, Linux, C++, Java, Java script, Perl, Python, MySQL, Cassandra* Responsible for the development of the Thomson Reuters Tick History system, providing millisecond-timestamped tick data covering 45 million active instruments worldwide. * Being exposed to complicated system integrated by Web application frontend in Java/JS; SOAP protocol API interface; Backend in C++; and large scale database systems in MySQL and Cassandra. * The system has been running for over 10 years with a huge code base in a variety of technologies. It was a great opportunity for me get in touch with such a system and I was able to start my contribution in a short period of time. * Development environment based on Linux. * Also involved in various bug fixes which required deep understanding of the legacy code of the existing system. * Also responsible for on-going maintenance and support for the system, including developer level client support (e.g. SOAP API client program development support), and 24/7 on-call support for system emergencies.

Printer Driver, Render/Post-render Processes, C * Carried out the full software development lifecycle including requirements analysis, object-oriented design, coding in C, and developer testing, as well as preparing test plans for QA engineers. * Adhered to strict coding standard and development procedures, including peer review of all documentation and code, unit testing modules and test plans. * Software development was mostly using Visual Studio for Windows and Xcode for Mac OS. Xebra Driver Platform Project (2007 – 2013) * Early role involved design and development of software for Canon’s Ultra-Fast Rendering (UFR) technology. This software was used in Mac printer drivers (multiple releases between 2007 and 2011) and Canon’s Image Runner Advance line (released in 2010). Key responsibilities included designing and improving rendering/post-rendering algorithms within the system. Major achievements included the development of an SSE based algorithm for half-toning and colour conversion, which improved performance by a factor of five, and the use of multi-threading to improve performance. * Responsibilities encompassed integrating many software components created by other teams within CiSRA and Canon Inc. This involved working closely with other teams to ensure that all requirements were satisfied, including negotiating interface changes and analysing system performance. * Participated in developing a load balancing module, which improved driver performance using idiom detection to identify and simplify input print jobs, and resulting in some jobs experiencing up to a ten-fold improvement in performance. Adaptive Region Rendering Project (2014) * Major responsibilities included design and development of software for Canon’s compact page description technology. * Development a prototype half-toning implementation for the mid-2014 wide format printer release, including preparation of technical transfer material for Canon Inc. engineers.

Embedded System Development, Network Protocol Programming, Hardware Driver/BIOS, C/Assembly * Software engineer in the platform team in R&D department, responsible for developing and upgrading of the kernel of gaming machines. * Developed software that contributed to sophisticated electronic gaming products. The software platform was used in all product releases worldwide. * Programming and debugging using C and assembly language for embedded systems, including debugging and testing on target gaming machine hardware. * BIOS programming and debugging for certain hardware components such as coin/note taker. * Improved documentation processes where the existing process was inadequate. * Followed strict software development procedures for synchronous development and releases. * Adhered to very high quality requirements for system security due to the sensitivity of the industry. * Programming for SAS, XComm, QCOM and other gaming machine communication protocol standards.
