I am the Vice-Rector in Europe of the United Nations University (UNU) and Director of the UNU Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS). Since joining UNU in 2020, my work has focused on fostering and promoting research, co-creating knowledge and working together with communities to better address the challenges of environmental hazards and their impacts on people, with a strong emphasis on inspiring hope and well-being, building resilience and promoting sustainable development.I hold a PhD in Geography from the University of Bonn/UNU-EHS, with a focus on flood risk perception and communication in different cultural contexts, and my career has been shaped by a deep commitment to leveraging science and education to create positive change in vulnerable communities worldwide. From my early research in environmental risks to my leadership roles in global academic and governmental institutions, I have consistently worked to advance science-driven solutions to the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.
