I’m Shermayne, a student currently studying in the Diploma of Early Childhood in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. As a compassionate and patient individual, who is driven to make a positive impact in children’s lives by allowing children to express themselves freely in a safe and welcoming environment. I aspire to make children have a love for learning by making learning fun, and being a positive role in children’s lives.I personally believe that the role of an educator is to be a facilitator. By guiding and scaffolding children in their learning and time in school, children would be able to learn at their own pace without being spoon fed by educators. I truly believe that children learn better when experiencing something first-hand as they are able to use their 5 senses to learn. Through my beliefs, it shaped my idea of the type of educator I would like to become, creating a goal for me to reach. During my 6 month internship with E-Bridge Preschool, I mainly worked with children in K1, but was able to work with children of various age groups during the induction period. Although my time with the other age groups may be limited, I managed to try out the different routines like preparation of milk and changing of diapers. This introduced me to new experiences that I may not have faced when working with only with children aged 4-5 years old.
