She earned her undergraduate degree in 1970 from Mary Washington College in Sociology and Social Welfare; her Master’s Degree in Social Work at the Virginia Commonwealth University in 1976; and a Post Master’s Certificate in Administration from the University of Maryland, School of Social Work in 1983. Currently, she is the Director of Resident Life at Erickson Retirement Community-Charlestown where she is responsible for the daily operations of the Resident Life Division and overall responsibility for the functions of: Administration, Community Resources (Social Programming), Social Work, Pastoral Ministries, Community Television, Volunteers, Home Support and Certified Home Health. She develops programs that directly impact the social, psychological, intellectual, creative, physical and spiritual welfare of their 2400 residents. Sherry has received several recognitions in Social Work during her 36 years of experience as a social worker in long term care, acute care management and health care administrator, and she is a member of Maryland Gerontological Association and the National Association of Social Workers.Sherry was born in Huntington, W.Va. and reared in Williamson, W.Va. & Richmond, Va. Along with her husband of 34 years, John Macon Parrish, PhD, and their daughter, Shannon (20), junior at University of Maryland, College Park, they make their home in Ellicott City, Maryland.
