Sherwat Elwan Ibrahim is Associate Professor of Operations & Supply Chain Management at the Business School at the American University in Cairo (AUC). She is also Chair of the UN Global Compact Principals of Responsible Management (PRME) Chapter Africa, and was formerly the Director of the MBA & EMBA programs at AUC School of Business. Her previous roles included an appointment as Visiting Associate Professor at the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. Sherwat holds a Master’s and Ph.D. in Technology Management from Stevens Institute of Technology. She has several publications in leading journals including Journal of Economic Geography, Global Perspectives, Africa Journal of Management, the International Journal of Production Research, Journal of Global Operations and Strategic Sourcing, Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management, and Management Decision and co-edited a book on Africa and Sustainable Global Value Chains. She has been jointly awarded the Ted Eschenbach prize for Best paper in Engineering Management Journal, and the “Bright idea” award, for her paper in New Jersey Publications. She is also Africa regional editor for Journal of Supply Chain Management. Her research interests include global value chain resilience, sustainable supply chain management, responsible sourcing and supplier governance, and supply chain technology adoption. Sherwat is Partner & Senior consultant at Innovety, an innovation management consulting firm and affiliate of Boston-based IXL-Center, where she leads several engagements with private sector, government, and NGO accounts, and consults on innovation practices, strategy and management of technology. Sherwat is an expert on SMEs’ business growth and development, and was a core faculty member of Goldman Sachs (GS) Women Entrepreneurship and Leadership Program (WEL). Sherwat serves on the advisory board for the 'Center for Applied Research and Innovation in Supply Chain–Africa (CARISCA)', where she advises and supports the building of world-class supply chain research and academic curricula in Africa higher education institutions. She also serves on the advisory board of the 'PRME Impactful Five (i5) project: Learning in Leadership Education' that oversees and provides input on PRME’s largest program to date. The program aims to generate a holistic skillset for business school education that develops capabilities needed to lead their future organizations in a way that is consistent with the SDG’s and a multi-stakeholder corporate vision.
