Currently I hold two roles, one is the Faculty Director of Data Science and AI Education, the other, the role of Director of Education for the Operations and Analytics group within the University of Exeter Business School. I am a Senior Lecturer in Business Analytics bringing my skills and knowledge gained over years of developing and teaching computer science. Prior to joining the University of Exeter I lectured for approximately 15 years at the University of Plymouth. Before entering academia I worked as a database and software developer from 1992 through to starting teaching as a PhD student in 2005. I started database and software development using Delphi, DBase III and IV, Paradox and later progressed to Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL. I held the role of Associate Head of Computing at Plymouth and led our small team to substantially improve student satisfaction- jumping from Q4 to Q1 after a sustained period of interventions. This included a complete overhaul of the Computing curriculum to bring it much more in line with the subject benchmark. Whilst the focus of my roles at Exeter is to support colleagues in developing excellent teaching in the fields of Data Science, AI and Analytics, I continue my research looking at connected technologies and their impact on vulnerable groups. I formerly worked with the Plymouth Early Years team and the E-Safety subgroup reporting on how technology is being assimilated by under fives in the Plymouth area. Previous work with vulnerable groups utilised in Parlimentary IT Committee evidence, BT and HP Trustguide report and producing safety guidelines for Women's Aid.Previously a software developer for maternity systems company, data quality consultant for the NHS, software developer for software house and IT manager for small histopathology laboratory.
