I create educational content for the Stanford Bioengineering Department's social media handles and initiated a DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) interview series where I publish articles on university-level educational reform based on interviews with STEM accessibility/DEI experts.

I manage the Instagram account of Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, Stanford University's outdoor ecological laboratory, and create educational content to expand the reach of our preserve's research. This content informs viewers on local ecology, the species that comprise local ecosystems, and the preserve's research and staff highlights.

Under the Peter Yang lab of Stanford's orthopedic surgery department, I am designing, modeling, and prototyping a compression bioreactor to mechanically stimulate mesenchymal stem cell differentiation into bone/tendon cells with the goal of their implant into rotator cuff tears. This prototyping and reiterating process utilizes CAD software, 3D printing, laser cutting, milling, turning, welding, casting, and vector graphics. Virtually 100% of people tear their rotator cuff within their lifetime, and our tissue regenerating-implant aims to mitigate this unmet medical need. My current model created a platform for the lab to test bioprinted scaffolds for MSC differentiation with improved efficiency, durability, energy conservation, and user operability compared to their old model, and increased sample loading sites, a lower cost, and lower lab resource utilization compared to models on the market.

Working under Stanford University's Huang and Demirci labs, I conducted a wide array of lab procedures such as RNA sequencing, extracellular vesicle isolation, medical device fabrication, growth curve analysis, anaerobic microbe cultivation, and exosome counting.

I place my students at the forefront of their learning experience by using an inquiry-based teaching model geared towards gaining comprehensive depth and critical thinking skills.

My team at Sphingx Therapeutics and I pitched a novel, non-narcotic small molecule prodrug concept for neuropathic pain to a venture capitalist panel at Stanford's Undergraduate Entrepreneurship competition and won a $50,000 grant to synthesize and test our compound. As the lead medicinal chemist, I have synthesized a library of prodrugs (using LC-MS, NMR, separation, and organic synthesis), and as a team biologist, am currently working on molecular and cell-level testing (hydrolysis assays, PK/PD, cell transfections, protein purifications, Western blots, etc). Our goal is to develop an accessible and non-narcotic pain modulator that can alleviate the hyperalgesia experienced regularly by the millions of patients with neuropathic pain.

As a co-lead of the DEI team at one of Stanford's largest engineering student organizations, I am passionate about creating a safe and uplifting club environment that incorporates diverse perspectives into its work. Our team ensures the consistent practice of DEI principles by all our members. In doing so, I have helped create a DEI member agreement document to standardize expectations for member behavior and inform our members of consequence and reporting procedures.

As a teaching assistant for my high school's Biotechnology class, I create practice problem sets, help student with their work, answer any questions they have, and work students through difficult problems and unfamiliar experiments.

I assisted neuroendocrinology researcher Dr. Kimberly Jennings at the de Lecea lab in studying the role of the neuropeptide hypocretin in animal wakefulness and motivation. I was in charge of analyzing the lab's DNA samples all summer, learned to perform ovariectomies and profusions on mice, used an electron microscope, genotyped DNA samples through gel electrophoresis and polymerase chain reaction, made electrodes for optogenetic studies, sliced tissue using a cryostat, and conducted behavioral analyses on transgenic mice. In addition, I arranged, cleaned, and organized the equipment and chemicals shelves.

I tutored at the San Jose Public Library two hours every week, helping children ages 5-10 in math, English, reading, and science. I worked with one child one-on-one during each session and often helped Spanish-speaking elementary schoolers with English, monitored children during their free time, settled disputes between children, and discussed each child's progress with parents. Every session, I also read children's books to the younger kids and helped older children pick out books from the library for the week.
