Hello my name is Scott Semken and I am a senior student at Arizona State University studying sustainability. I’ve always had a penchant for energy systems and as someone who has grown up in one of the worst air polluted regions of the United States I have seen first hand how coal powered power plants have negatively affected marginalized groups of people like within the Navajo Nation, where I am from. To this end I have been studying sustainability to expand the development of cleaner energy systems going forward into the future. Along the way I have found an interest in sustainable agriculture and have ample experience in sustainable urban farming methods and in the future I hope to develop systems that can both feed and power vulnerable communities. Energy systems and agriculture are some of the most polluting aspects of human development and I hope to work to develop better ways of feeding and powering future generations so that they too will have a healthy world in which to call home.
