Simon Collinson. FRSA, FAcSS, BAM and Chartered ABS Fellow, D.Phil. (SPRU, Sussex).I am a Tsingshan Chair Professor in the School of Management, Zhejiang University (SOM, ZJU), one of the leading universities in China, in Hangzhou, China. I am also an Honorary Professor at the University of Birmingham and an Associate at the Bennett Institute for Public Policy at Cambridge University.Until recently (April 2024) I had a dual role at the University of Birmingham as its first Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor for Regional Engagement and as the Founding Director of the City-Region Economic Development Institute (City-REDI), leading research on inclusive regional growth. Partnering with regional authorities, firms and universities City-REDI and WM REDI help policymakers develop and evaluate economic growth policies that reduce inequality while improving productivity and sustainability. After 4 years as Dean of the UoB Business School (2012-2016) I spent over 8 years leading City-REDI, securing over £10 million in research funding and employing 30 full time staff. I am an elected Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS), a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts (FRSA), a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Business Schools (C-ABS) and a Fellow of the British Academy of Management (FBAM).Past Roles...Following my D.Phil. at the Science Policy Research Unit I was Deputy Director at JETS - studying Japanese industry at the University of Edinburgh. I moved to Warwick Business School (WBS) in 2000 and took on the roles of Department Head (MSM), Associate Dean of the MBA programme suite and Deputy Dean of WBS. Following a period at Henley Business School, University of Reading, I was appointed Dean of the Birmingham Business School in 2012. I have also served as a member of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) for two elected periods (2011-2018), the UK’s largest funder of social science research. I was also Chair of the Chartered Association of Business Schools (2015-2018), which serves over 130 UK business schools.I have published over 80 peer-reviewed journal outputs in, for example, Research Policy, Regional Studies, JIBS, Business History and Organisation Studies. My research has also featured in the Financial Times, Sunday Times, Wall Street Journal, BBC Radio 4, and the New Statesman. I am the lead author of the FT/Pearson International Business textbook, now in its 9th Edition and have taught at the MBA and Executive levels at Henley (Reading), WBS (Warwick) and Judge (Cambridge) Business Schools.
