"Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen." - Conan O’BrienImmigrating to Canada at the age of nine, I faced the challenges of learning a new language and adapting to a new culture. Despite these obstacles, I was fortunate to have exceptional teachers who provided the support and guidance I needed to succeed. Their profound impact on my life inspired me to pursue a career in teaching.During my first two years at the University of Alberta, I felt I wasn't gaining enough educational experiences, despite getting good grades. I doubted whether I was suitable to become a teacher and even considered taking a break from everything. However, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and push myself.I first started with volunteering, then transitioned into more professional jobs. I went from a kid who barely even spoke English to a university student teaching at three different teaching jobs before even graduating. These experiences have snowballed into a fulfilling journey where I have continuously challenged myself and grown both personally and professionally. I am a strong believer in the philosophy, "if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen," because it has proven true in my life.I am excited to take on new challenges and continue my path toward becoming an educator who can inspire and positively impact the youth of tomorrow. Please feel free to connect with me at sijoon@ualberta.ca
