Caltex Refineries (QLD) Ltd operates the manufacturing business unit of Caltex Australia Petroleum Limited (CAPPL). Caltex is Australia’s leading transport fuels manufacturer and retailer, employing approximately 800 people at the Lytton Refinery, the only transport fuels refinery in Queensland. Reporting to the Health, Safety and Environment Manager, with the purpose of continuously improving the safety of all personnel on site through cooperative system development, associated core role deliverables included (but were not limited to):» Enable the understanding of Health, Hygiene, Safety and Security processes for all personnel on site» Embed improved safety into future projects through early involvement in the change management process» Collaborate with site contract managers to ensure alignment between contractor safety systems and Caltex safety systems» Development and improvement of safe systems of work including permit to work, lock out/tag out and isolation, confined space entry processes, security, incident investigation, occupational hygiene, behaviour based safety and contractor safety management.Key Achievements:» Renegotiation of the site security contract for three years, with a below CPI cost increase» Embedded the Contractor Safety Management system on site through implementation of training and compliance tracking.

Reporting to the Supply Chain Governance Superintendent, with the purpose of facilitating continuous improvement processes across Supply Chain Operation, as well as providing board reporting on risk status for high potential risks, associated core role deliverables included (but were not limited to):» Facilitate learning for Operational Excellence process Sponsors and Advisors » Lead internal quality audits to ensure system compliance and improvement based on ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 » Continuous improvement of management systems, as well as monitoring and reporting for the Board for Health, Environment, Safety, Reliability and Efficiency» Monitor and develop continuous improvement plans for the Caltex Risk Management Framework (CRMF), including the development of potential future organisational risks including audits of the risk controls for effectiveness.Key Achievements:» Development and implementation of an enhanced governance process enabling more frequent visibility of key metrics of value to the frontline and senior leaders» Development, conduct and analysis of a Leadership Behaviours Assessment Survey across the supply chain, with over 600 respondents, including online surveys and face to face facilitated feedback.

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager with the purpose of certifying transport fuels to meet all relevant standards, and optimise refinery operations through the delivery of technical analysis, associated core role deliverables included (but were not limited to):» Support the efficient operation of the refinery through testing of all process streams and waste water treatment plant» Develop the operational expenditure budget of $4 million and manage the equipment regeneration to build capability» Leadership of the certification laboratory, to enable the sale of all product produced at the refinery to a standard that exceeds customer expectations» Manage the maintenance and improvement of the laboratory quality systems to maintain compliance with NATA, ISO9001 and ISO17025 requirements.Key Achievements:» Led the laboratory through a restructure inclusive of a testing review that enabled increased refinery optimisation» Achieved the inaugural Caltex Stellar Award for Trailblaze (innovation) by increasing product output from Lytton Refinery for jet fuel from 300 tonnes/day to 1,500 tonnes/day.

Reporting to the Chief Chemist with the purpose of supervising a team of three and performing testing of finished fuels, intermediate products and waste water to enable efficient refinery operations, associated core role deliverables included (but were not limited to):» Certification of finished fuel as a NATA signatory for Jet fuel» Maintenance of online sample handling systems that enable real time and in process sample analysis» Chemical and physical property analysis of refinery process streams and fuels for optimisation and sale» Liaison with key operational personnel to ensure clear understanding of results, in written and verbal forms.Key Achievements:» Presentation to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences on the chemical fingerprint properties of diesel» Commissioning of online analysers as a part of the clean fuels project to provide cleaner fuels to the end user.

Reporting to the Environmental Analysis Manager, core role deliverables included (but were not limited to):» Reporting of analytical results» Preparation of soil and water samples for trace property analysis» Analysis of soil and water samples for trace nutrients, cyanide, mercury and physical properties.
