Teacher

Glasgow, United Kingdom

As a student teacher my role was that of a full-time teacher. I had to make lessons including presentations, tasks and resources for the students and leading the full days’ worth of lessons. In addition to this I had to conform to strict GDPR regulations by making sure I logged any official conversation had and making sure no personal information left the school premises with me. Working in the Social Sciences department of the school meant I had to work efficiently with other teachers. Each week there was a social science where the staff would decide on strategies on behaviour management, personal and departmental performance goals. I would be responsible for creating learning reports for all lessons which included SIMD, learning difficulties and disabilities. I had to report to the department head daily to report about progress that day although ultimately, I would be judged on the results of tests and exams. However, I left this role after completing the 6-month placement as I the profession of teaching did not offer a suitable path for my personal and professional development

Bar Staff

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

My main responsibilities in this position was customer service, restock the bar and to tidy the bar and surrounding area. Working on the bar taught me to work well in a team in a pressured situation. The bar was often extremely busy and without good communication could not function properly. This role also added to my customer service skills as the job was still customer based but a completely different customer demographic. The different clientele taught me new ways to approach situations that I had not yet experienced working in retail and a cash office.

Team Leader

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

n Topshop over the 10 years I had 2 different roles. Working on the shop floor as a sales assistant my main role was to provide a high level of customer service. Other responsibilities included stock management and visual merchandising. My second role was as an admin assistant within a cash office. My main responsibilities in this role included handling cash and performing the store banking, refunds, payroll and customer complaints. I was promoted to Team Leader which gave me added duties and responsibilities. On the shop floor I now helped with staff hiring, staff rotas and staff issues by being a liaison between staff and management. As a Team Leader I was also required to train new staff. Training covered customer service, till operation and health and safety. This role taught me how to work to a deadline by making sure all the stores finances were correct and that staff were getting paid the correct amount on time. As a Team Leader in the admin office my added responsibilities would be assisting senior management with store finances such as profits and expenses. My experience within the cash office taught me to be confident with finances and helped me further develop my problem-solving skills. A large part of my job was finding solutions for management to make sure our finances were correct and there was enough money for expenses.
