Senior Manager Group Reward
Reporting to the Group Reward Director, I am an integral member of the Group Reward team, which has key responsibility for the reward of Executive Directors and the Top 100 across the Group.My role includes: - Drafting Remuneration Committee papers. These cover the full annual cycle including benchmarking, salary review, setting bonus measures and targets, setting LTI targets, determining incentive outcomes, etc. - In particular the review of the Group’s long term incentive plan, which led to a new design being approved by shareholders at the 2013 AGM and subsequently cascaded and communicated across Prudential’s business units. - Responsibility for drafting the Directors’ Remuneration Report, including the implementation of the new reporting regulations in 2014, which required a re-design of the Report. This achieved a vote in favour of 92% (policy) and 95% (implementation), an increase from 88% in 2013 and 69% in 2012. - Preparing the presentation for shareholder consultation, together with drafting responses to shareholders’ questions, including reports from the ABI, ISS and other representative bodies. - Being responsible for drafting the Q&A pack for the AGM and for the media at the time of publication of the Annual Report. - The design of reward packages for members of the Group’s Top 100, which are subsequently approved by business unit remuneration committees.- Assessing and making recommendations on proposals from the business units, particularly those in Asia, asset management and Group Head Office.- Working with reward leads in the business units to ensure effective reward practices implemented throughout the Group.- Reviewing and making recommendations regarding Chairman and Non-Executive Director fees.- Formulating recruitment and exit packages.

I was a senior member of Deloitte’s Executive Compensation Consulting team, providing advice to Management and Remuneration Committees of a variety of clients, from FTSE 100 to private companies. Alongside supporting my clients throughout the annual reward cycle, specific projects included: - Design and implementation of incentive arrangements for FTSE 100 multinational. Encompassed all employee annual bonus, all employee share plans and short and long term incentives for senior executives. - Short term secondment at FTSE 20 company, providing senior level support to the Director of Total Reward across a variety of reward issues. This ranged from the all employee salary review and communicating incentive schemes to participants to drafting Remuneration Committee papers on the proposed approach to remuneration design for the coming year. - Review of executive remuneration for FTSE 100 technology company. Included review of remuneration strategy and principles, benchmarking competitive position and assessing the appropriateness of the short and long term incentives to meet the requirements of the business. Culminated in new plans being implemented at 2010 AGM. - Advising management of a FTSE 50 multinational on the re-design of short and long term incentive design to increase participants’ perceived value of the package and better align the reward package with the business strategy. - Carrying out due diligence on reward packages for a Japanese headquartered company acquiring a UK business. - Providing advice on the design of remuneration packages for a UK retailer preparing for IPO. As a senior member of the team, I also undertook a variety of non-client roles, such as managing a number of junior staff, running training courses, interviewing potential new recruits and being in charge of resource allocation for projects across the team.
