After graduating with a 2:1 with honours in chemistry, I decided to combine my interest in particle physics and chemistry and started working at Alliance Medical Radiopharmacy, maintaining the quality of radioactive tracers used in PET scans. During these 6 years I developed my skills relating to QA such as CAPA, OOS and OOT investigations while also participating in validation projects such as installation and validation of new analytical equipment. I was also involved in data integrity initiatives when the MHRA published the new regulations in 2018.Moving to Recipharm in 2019 I quickly developed my skills on Empower 3 developing methods and running routine analysis. Assisted Senior QC members on product investigations to determine root cause. At Recipharm I was also heavily involved with the health and safety committee carrying out monthly health and safety audits, writing reports and ensuring compliance. During the pandemic, Recipharm decided to move me to a newly acquired site due to my HPLC and QMS skills. In the 4 months I spent on the Isle of Sheepy, I helped perform HLPC analysis and also improve their paperwork system. After the pandemic I decided to make a career change due to my skills in process mapping and QMS improvement. I took an opportunity with Yourgene Health, an up and coming medical device company. A newly expanding IVD and NIPT testing market, due to the pandemic, also interested me. Working as a quality assurance specialist, I became part of a 5 person team who turned out to be all new, replacing the old team over the course of 5 months. I became involved with a new acquired company (formerly Premaitha Health) who produced NIPT testing kits and workflows. After just over a year, I had integrated the new QMS systems into the main business. The business then decided to move 4 locations in Manchester to a new site. The business also underwent a transformation as it had focused on the covid market during the pandemic, a course change was necessary. I helped to create new processes and systems in the new locations to integrate the core business systems like goods receipt and product release. Working in a number of different medical companies has given me a unique insight into how quality systems work and how important they are not just for maintaining compliance but also maximising profits. A poorly designed quality system leads to deviations and missed deadlines. Missed deadlines means reducing margins and opportunities.
