Researched plant phytochemistry as part of an undergraduate honour's research project. My project consisted of characterizing the distribution of alkylamides, a bioactive compound with potential medicinal properties, in 5 species of plants belonging to the Asteraceae family (daisy family). Of this family, the most commonly known is Echinacea purpurea, popularly consumed for its medicinal benefits of fighting throat infections and helping prevent the common cold. It is believed that alkylamides are responsible for conferring these medicinal benefits. The project objective was therefore to search for the presence of alkylamides in plants phylogenetically related to Echinacea purpurea, and if alkylamides were detected, characterize their relative distribution across the plant (leaves, stems, flowers, roots). Techniques utilized include ethanol extractions, centrifugation, high-powered liquid chromatography (HPLC), and mass spectrometry.

Performed field data collection, assisting with multiple ongoing studies including : tree genetics studies, permanent sample plot succession experiments, and operation biomass harvest studies. Data was collected with the use of GIS, GPS, and DBH measurements. Led a collection of insect, soil, and foliage samples to deliver to scientists across Canada for active research.
