Flood Risk Manager
CurrentLeading the flood risk team (and temporarily the ecology service) at the Council and delivering the duties and responsibilities of the Flood and Water Management Act 1991, Land Drainage Act 1991, Coast Protection Act 1949, Reservoir Act 1975 and the Environment Act 2021.Managing a high work load, with tight statutory deadlines and limited resources.Leading on grant application and funding bids.Developing and delivering a Local Flood Risk Management Strategy for North Somerset after gaining consensus from partner organisations, Councillors and local communities.Creating a Flood Risk Partnership consisting of RMAs to enable partnership delivery of the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy.Representing the authority on the Bristol Avon Catchment Partnership, Severn Estuary Partnership, chairing the North Somerset Levels and Moors Partnership, chairing the Association of Severn Estuary Relevant Authorities, and vice chair of Severn Estuary Partnership and Severn Estuary Coastal Group. Briefing Councillors for their attendance at Wessex Regional Flood and Coastal Committee and the Devon and Severn Inland Fisheries and Conservation Authority.Briefing Councillors and presenting at Committees regarding delivery of national and local policy.Management of a statutory reservoir under the Reservoir Act 1975.Providing flood risk technical advice and support to the local planning authority, including being an expert witness during planning appeals.Leading on the improvement and repair of Victorian flood defenses along the North Somerset Coast.Obtaining funding and delivering natural flood management and property level flood resilience across the district.Delivering a beach management plan for Weston-super-Mare, working with the Environmental Agency and Natural England to achieve the desired outcomes after a habitat regulations assessment.
