For the last 2 years I was Technical Lead for 2 teams as part of the hugely successful Census 2021 Project. The teams developed products related to the Census Field Workers. This involved being responsible for providing microservices which orchestrated the integration with a multitude of integration points both internal and third party. The team worked using devops practices, providing CI/CD to deploy to Cloud Infrastructure built using Infrastructure as Code.--- I was Originally employed as a Mentor to software engineering graduates at ONS, I successfully managed 2 groups of graduates where a high number of them joined ONS as permanent staff, these graduates are highly valued by the organisation. During this time I also carried out Technical Lead duties which included deciding on the technologies to adopt, contributed to technical designs with the Architects, liaised with other Technical Leads (Internal and External) to agree on interfacing between products, carried out code reviews, championed the importance of BDD during development and designed CD/CI pipelines for all projects we worked on.

As Technical Lead I helped design and implement a fulfilment system to fulfil orders of digital maps and GeoSpatial data. The system needed the ability to fulfil orders from a few megabytes to bespoke orders containing gigabytes of data, where long running transactions can run over 24 hours.Continuous Delivery was introduced to this project and as a result testing strategies were identified and implemented to give confidence so that any checkin that successfully passed through the pipeline could be used as a release candidate.Great emphasis was given to BDD - Acceptance Tests, this gave confidence to the business as functional and non functional requirements were mapped to an acceptance test, this gave a common language between product owner, tester and developers.The team I lead comprised of 3 trainee developers and 3 trainee testers.

In my time at IDBS I was been involved in the ongoing development of our core product, through 3release cycles and numerous service releases. As well as Java development, these releases included some requirements gathering, production of functional specs, formal reviews of documents i.e other developers functional spec, testing strategies. Working in a team of 6 in a DSDM based environment, we design 3 tier enterprise solutions.Implementation based around JSF, Webservices, EJB3, Hibernate, Spring and JMS. Developedbespoke desktop applications based on core Java and Swing technologies.
