Senior Legal Counsel
CurrentI am currently working at Senior Counsel level within the Business Legal Team at Nationwide Building Society. I have a broad role covering general commercial, tech, strategy, privacy and payments. I report into the Deputy Chief Legal Officer, regularly advise Exco members and manage external counsel.I frequently negotiate and advise on material engagements with key suppliers and the subsequent regulatory submissions with the likes of Microsoft, HP and SAP and have also worked with Apple and Google in respect of their digital wallets and Visa on card scheme matters. From a IP perspective, I manage our trademark portfolio and I provided various advice in respect of Nationwide's recent re-branding campaign. I have also negotiated a number insurance intermediary and distribution agreements with global insurers. I regularly lead the legal workstreams for Nationwide across a number of industry wide initiatives, including the New Payments Architecture programme, the replacement of the UK's main payment ecosystem, and the Access to Cash joint venture, an award winning industry collaboration between a number of FS firms and Addleshaw Goddard (AG). I have also supported UK Finance in respect of a number of industry projects. I am part of various working groups and committees within the Society dealing with a broad range of issues, including the adoption of AI, Open Banking matters and responses to regulatory consultations. I regularly update precedent materials and provide internal training. I am currently on an internal leadership programme and previously attended a year long Future Leaders course run by AG. I also currently participate in a number of internal and external mentoring programmes to help with the development of others.
