As such we should all strive to make it the very best we can.Simon Hedges graduated from St Martins School of Art in London in 1991 and shortly thereafter Co- founded and Directed, "Alaska" (75 000 sq. ft), studios/gallery, Bermondsey, London. Through the early "YBA" (Young British Art), years and on he worked as a curator. In the early nineties he Co-founded and Directed the Underwood Arts galleries, studios, workshops and offices -"30 Underwood Street Gallery" became a pivotal part of Hoxton/Shoreditch and the wider YBA scene.By the end of the decade he had become the Project curator for The Saatchi Collection - projects included Philanthropic donations to the Arts Council England Collection, The National Arts Collection Fund - now known as The Art Fund and The ‘Paintings in Hospitals’ programme.During this time he worked with many well-known UK artists including Tracey Emin, Grayson Perry, Tim & Sue Nobel, Dexter Dalwood as well as International names such asDavid Salle, Tony Oursler & Richard Prince. Hedges also curated The Saatchi Bursaries - a bursary spanning all major London Collages.By the end of the noughties he was appointed Director/ senior Curator at F-ISH Gallery, Project Development Inc. F-ISH Creative Partnership The America Ground -'Independence' Day-including ACE capital projects ;Jerwood Gallery and Destination Stade. The next decade saw him working in the North of England - including Hull City of Culture 2017.Hedges only worked on a few select projects between 2011/17, rather he concentrated being a stay at home Dad with his son Nathaniel : ‘ Truly a great privilege - well worth taking a career break.’His next role was as Head of Curation Exhibitions and Collections, deputising as Director at Scarborough Museums Trust (SMT).SMT is an accredited Regional National Museum occupying, Woodend (former Sitwell residence), The Rotunda (William Smith Museum of Geology), Scarborough Art Gallery and two large Collections stores.2022 sees him at the ground breaking Amelia Scott, Royal Tunbridge Wells, South East UK.
