I am the Finance Business Partner at the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) where I am effectively the Financial Controller and trusted finance and strategic advisor to the $280M Air Force portfolio.I lead a team of Finance and Human Resource advisors to provide trustworthy, timely and accurate advice across these disciplines to the Air Force and NZDF Senior Leadership teams and manage the annual budget process, rolling forecasts and monthly financial management, analysis, and reporting. Previously I was the finance advisor and partner to the $140M NZDF Communication and Information Systems (CIS) Branch who are currently completing a people, culture and technology and systems transformation that will deliver a new ICT Operating Model and new IT services to the NZDF leveraging ‘as-a-service’ cloud solutions and Cloud infrastructure.

Due to a transition project to upgrade the existing ERP application (SAP), commission payments for NZ based Client Managers had not been calculated correctly for 18 months. I was tasked to identify all of the successful sales by Client Managers during this period and calculate their correct commission payments.I worked alongside Client Managers and Technical Solutions teams to fully understand the nature of the sales to correctly calculate their commissions. Through this I gained a clear insight into ‘as-a-service’ revenue streams, specifically Platforms, Infrastructure and Software.

Upon returning from working in the UK I was employed on a fixed term basis at The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners is a not-for-profit professional body and postgraduate educational institute that sets standards for general practice with annual funding of $30m.My main responsibilities were to;• Present finance report at monthly Board meetings, including explanations of variances to budget;• Co-ordinate and prepare annual budget with senior managers and present to Board for approval;• Manage all financial operations, including cash-flows and risk management;• Prepare statutory financial statements for the Annual Report, present to Board for approval and be the lead with external auditors;• Manager of three direct reports with full responsibility for their annual performance and remuneration reviews, coaching and training and recruitment and management of fixed term employees as required;• Integral part of team that delivered annual subscription invoicing and subsequent payment through members’ database and then ensuring the accounting for the revenue and debtors was accurate in the finance application including reconciling with the members database.

In 2014, upon re-signing of the IT out-sourcing contract with BT, I was approached by Credit Suisse to ascertain if I was willing to move back to London to develop the necessary commercial models, templates and dashboards to improve Credit Suisse understanding of the contractual commitments of the new contact and provide accurate management data to enable better informed decisions within the IT division of the business.In addition, I was also involved in a wider program to reduce Credit Suisse’s operating costs by CHF2b by efficiency initiatives, rationalising services and running ‘investing to save’ projects covering all aspects of IT and Vendor Management. During my time at Credit Suisse my significant achievements were;• Provide comprehensive explanations of Credit Suisse’s commercial contractual commitments by reading through the entire contract, identifying relevant clauses and presenting to senior management their financial and commercial ramifications.• Developing a model that enabled Credit Suisse to forecast costs throughout the life of the contract based upon ‘what if’ scenarios and provide variance reporting against the business case;• Work alongside Credit Suisse finance team based in New York to build management reports and dashboard to track monthly actuals and explain variances to budget and the business case;• Create a savings tracker model used by BT and Credit Suisse to track all savings initiatives specified within the contract; • Create a business case as part of a significant technology change as Credit Suisse looked to move away from standard voice to Skype for Business that would affect 50,000 employees worldwide

As Finance Manager I was responsible for managing all finance functions, including the direct management and leadership of the Finance team and was effectively the Financial and Management Accountant.May main responsibilities were:• Full month end financial accounting process and management reporting;• Attending Board and Audit and Risk Committee meetings to present the management reports, including revenue and costs performance to budget and forecasting and providing meaningful commentary of variances;• Lead contact person and co-ordinate all aspects of the annual audit and was solely responsible for the completion of the statutory financial statements;• Co-ordinate annual budget process and responsible for preparing cost centre budgets alongside cost centre managers and presenting to the Board and senior management for approval;• Preparation of the racing activities budget and ensuring that the funding budgeted to be received from the NZ Racing Board (NZRB) was sufficient to fund NZTR’s racing and non-racing activities.

As part of the commercial team on the Credit Suisse account I was involved in the transitioning of all of their IT Network functions to BT. I was based on the customer’s site 3 days per week working with BT and Credit Suisse Project Managers, assessing their Network requirements and using this information to build and price service solutions based upon BT’s technology and services.My significant achievements as part of the Commercial team on the Credit Suisse account were;• Working alongside BT’s IT and Design teams and third party vendors ensuring all IT solutions provided met the customer’s specifications and then working with my Commercial team colleagues to cost and price the solution accurately; • Established and managed the Global Complex Quotes and Orders Team responsible for ensuring all installation requests from Credit Suisse were completed accurately and timely.As the Commercial Manager on the Visa account I was responsible for ensuring all aspects of the relationship were conducted within the terms of the BT/Visa contract, including all commercial and financial business, procurement discussions with major vendors and overseeing all service related issues.My significant achievements as the Visa Commercial Manger were;• Developing a savings profile tool used by BT to demonstrate at six monthly service reviews the savings Visa were realising as specified in the contract;• Participated in negotiations with key vendors to create contracts for procurement of third-party services and products that benefited both BT and Visa.

Initially employed to develop and maintain an inventory database of all equipment and services utilised within the BT/Merrill Lynch project. To do this I worked closely with the Commercial and Operations teams, effectively acting as link between the financial aspect of the contract and the day to day operations of the contract.My significant achievements in this role were;• Developing a close relationship with Merrill Lynch, on occasion being the first contact person with regards to quote requests and other queries. All the while building up considerable experience working on customer premises, with Technical Design teams, third party vendors and BT’s overseas entities;• I recorded all costs and revenue incurred, forecast future costs and tracked these costs against actuals. On a monthly basis I reported these figures to the Business Director and Sector Finance Accountant; this was the first time such reporting was done on the contract;• Provided a managed billing service for major BT customers (JP Morgan, HSBC, DrKW and Nomura).

I was asked to be a Team Leader of five team members where I was also responsible for their development, conducted their quarterly performance reviews and participated in discussions regarding their end of year grade. My significant achievements as Team Leader were;• Creating a work stack matrix that detailed what each of my team members main roles were and also what the second and third roles were expected of them;• By developing this matrix and then running the necessary training I demonstrated to the Business Directors and Business Managers that all of their contracts had sufficient first line support and sufficient second and third line support.

I was initially employed as Payroll Administrator responsible for processing fortnightly pays for over 100 employees. After six months my role broadened to include Human Resources.My significant achievements in this role were;• Using cost management software to record labour hours and costs of projects and using this information to create finance reports for individual projects. This was the first time this had been done and as a result I was awarded the inaugural company employee of the year.
