I am a partner in Penningtons Manches Cooper and lead the firm’s Oxford real estate team. I advise companies and individuals on all aspects of English commercial property law I act for sellers, buyers, landlords, tenants, large companies, small companies and individuals. Some are household names, experienced property investors/developers and others are start-up companies, first time investors/ developers with no experience at all. The challenge is different but equally rewarding. A significant part of the work that I do is residential development. Acting for the developer to acquire the land, fund and then develop it. Almost always the transaction is subject to planning with overage agreements, several layers of funding and planning agreements. I also do a lot of lease work. Historically a lot of this was in the retail and leisure sector helping corporate tenants with fast “roll out” programmes. I have helped acquire and let a substantial number of sites for new gyms, convenience stores, retail stores and offices.Outside work I can often be found at the beach. I am a member of the BRSC sailing club and race regularly in my Scow. My passion however is windsurfing and if it’s blowing 30 knots you will find me at Lepe spit windsurfing in the waves.As for my team, • The PMC real estate team has operated in the local market for years. With strong local connections we are well placed to advise those looking to invest/ acquire property in the area. • The team advise in many different sectors but due to location we are first choice for those in the life science, technology and education sectors. • The Oxford Colleges have hugely diverse property requirements.
