The highly-revered Northcoders Data Engineering programme is designed with industry demands in mind and has equipped me with the fundamentals needed to move forwards in this sector. Across 500-600 hours, the programme:• Covered the fundamentals of JavaScript, Node.js and Python, contextually applied to data engineering• Provided hands-on experience with advanced SQL, data modelling, cloud engineering and infrastructure deployment• Promoted the use of industry-preferred best practices, such as Agile methodologies, paired programming, TDD and collaborative working using Git/GitHub• Culminated with a project to build an ETL pipeline to extract data from a PostgreSQL database into a data lake, utilise serverless solutions (AWS Lambda) to transform the data in to an OLAP-compliant structure, to be loaded into a data warehouse, allowing BI solutions, such as AWS QuickSight, to query the data

• A multi-phase project for Mendeley Careers, a STEM-oriented job board owned by Scientific, Technical & Medical information and analytics company, RELX plc• Created and maintained a lead generation database, capturing targeted content metrics along with contact details to facilitate partnership strategy• Analysed existing and new content pipelines, and utilised data to establish metrics that steered decision-making in regards to efficiency and relevancy of content from various feeds• Used a data-driven approach to plotting industry and location-specific trends in regards to job-seeking and talent acquisition strategy/procedure• Co-developed and executed a market research strategy focused on content identification and acquisition of job posts from academic institutions, STEM employers and industry-focused job boards in targeted countries and regions

Based in London, I undertook a number of roles working with a global network of colleagues in Operations, Information Services, Logistics, Trading, Risk and Structured Finance.• Worked with systems architects and BI consultants to re-design database solutions so that inventory data could be queried more efficiently, forecasts produced and dashboards could be introduced to provide enhanced physical position insight to trade, risk management, structured finance and senior management• Played a major role in a data migration project, communicating multi-department business requirements to data engineers and solving data consistency challenges so that the extract, transform and load process into a new data warehouse solution was successful • Managed the ICE London and CME Europe cocoa inventory databases, ensuring preparation to fulfil futures positions held in exchange delivery periods• Managed the exchange grading programs to ensure our inventory continued to be ICE/CME deliverable and that, via a number of brokers/members, our systems were synchronised with exchange databases so the intricate breakdown of quality parameters reflected reality• Worked with Structured Finance to capitalise upon liquidity potential of inventory and enhance working capital by use of Repo facilities across a number of banks. Also instigated buybacks ahead of ICE and end-client delivery• Worked with suppliers (both internal and external) and major shipping lines across five continents to ensure contractual obligations were met and that once the commodity was shipped, appropriate parties fulfilled the various and differing obligations in regards to delivery or storage• Oversaw major elements of the certification programs (UTZ, Organic, Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance) and ensured that compliance with these programs was adhered to by multiple worldwide teams following which, we could be audited with zero non-compliance issues

As well as continuing to manage my original responsibilities from my time as Sales & Marketing Assistant, I also took on the following key responsibilities in this varied role:•Managing a stock database for 20000+ high value items located at a UK wide network of depots.•Dealing with discrepancies and overseeing stocktakes to ensure accuracy in terms of item description, hire rate and availability at a location.•Providing guidance to a nationwide team of Office Managers.•Analysing stock logistics and IT systems/processes to identify issues and develop/ implement new processes resulting in improved efficiency.•Testing new IT systems and working with the IT departments to assist with a smooth rollout of new technology across the company.•The provision of a hardware/software troubleshooting service for the barcode scanners used by the depots for real-time location tracking of stock.•Generating reports to ensure KPI’s are met.•Identifying issues contributing towards missed targets.•The procurement of new stock involving the obtaining of quotations, raising Purchase Orders, receipting stock received, allocating ID to the stock and insuring the stock’s value, location, hire rate and service regime is allocated correctly within the database.

Working in the Head Office, my primary task was the organisation and management of the disposal of surplus rail and construction plant via a variety of sales mediums (online sales and auctions, live auctions and site visits). Items were sourced from stockpiles of surplus plant and from the identification of under utilised stock dependent upon depreciation rates amongst other factors. I was responsible for all aspects of the sales process, from promotion and advertising (strategically targeted to maximize revenue) through to customer relations (accommodating our customers needs, negotiations, after-sales queries), dealing with payments and invoicing.This campaign was a huge success, clearing entire sites in a matter of weeks, distributing our assets to buyers across the world, providing an on-demand liquidity solution and delivering cash to be injected into the procurement of new equipment demanded.Other responsibilities given to me were:•The production of marketing collateral for a variety of uses including promotional material, exhibition material, commercial documents and stationary.•Analysing competitors hire rates to ensure we are both competitive and have our pricing set at the correct levels.I continued to carry out this role when I was asked to take on my new role as Asset (Inventory) Manager.
