Working for the financial controller in Tilmanstone, heading up a team of 3 analysts/business partners, a mixture of on site and home working, based at the Kent salads factory in Tilmanstone, Kent with a turnover of c £80m pa. The role is responsible for the teams production of daily, weekly and monthly performance metrics and P&Ls based on standards and standard variances and also responsible for ensuring costings are accurately captured (4 decimal places) and then actioned and monitored in the factory systems. Review of profitability of lines and fine tuning where relevant the standards to create a more reflective picture. Working with the team to introduce a new fit-for-purpose reporting suite to bring life back to the data. Involving now daily and weekly flash reporting and more focus on key areas. Leading the annual standards review with the FP&A team, which involves checking for recipe issues, production issues and factory walk rounds to look for choke or waste points. The intent being to minimise the standard variances wherever possible and capture the correct costs on the correct produce giving a more reflective margin. Key achievements to date include the construction of a simplified weekly P&L pack taking a 30 page, number heavy document to a 2 page document highlighting the key areas of interest, focussing on the story of the week and graphing trends.Introduction of weekly overhead reporting into the standard pack making all of the numbers ‘real’Implementing fit-for-purpose process documents for all of the key tasks and formalising responsibilities and choke points.

Reporting to the Head of Finance and working with the Head of Strategy and Services and their department. This was a newly created role with a brief to provide the Contract Management Team with finance reporting and cohesive operational data analysis, relating to the waste disposal contracts with spend of c £45m pa. Working jointly with operations to enhance their understanding of the budget and producing variance analysis by area. to give a cohesive view. Working with the senior team to introduce fit-for-purpose finance processes around cost approval and payments. Introducing new capture mechanisms and leading the quarterly budget discussions with the 7 partner boroughs and feeding into the Menu pricing that produced the individual borough Levy charges. Responsible for all financial activities of 6 contracts with an annual turnover of £43m. The role was to 'add value' to the contracts and be a 'critical friend'. Working in close partnership with the key stakeholders - contract managers, Regional Directors and offshore assistant finance business partners to deliver high-quality financial reporting relating to the performance of the contracts, providing in-depth commentary and analysis for all interested parties. Budget/Forecasting and in depth reviews as well as ensuring financial compliance and a clean balance sheet. Highlights include being part of teams that won extensions on 3 contracts for between 1 and 7 years with forward order book of £60m, plus managing risk free contract exits on a further 2 contracts

A new position created within the organisation to ensure financial compliance, supported a progressive working environment and was responsible for structuring robust processes that supported efficiency improvements and Management decision making within the SMT. Dealing with offices in the UK and 7 European countries and producing bespoke job costing reports as well as remodelling and “what if” scenario work as part of decision-making process. Introduced the generation of overnight reports mailed to inboxes to show exception jobs for example jobs where we have lost more than expected. Allowing better and quicker reviews and corrective action.
