Simon Phoa Email and Phone Number

Simon Phoa is the Principal Cellist of both the Comet Symphonique and Musica Nova, plays with the Meadows Symphony Orchestra under Conductor Paul Phillips, and is a substitute for the Plano Symphony.Simon began playing cello at the age of 11. After studying with Ken Freudigman, he started under Andres Diaz, at Southern Methodist University. He is currently studying an undergraduate degree in Business Administration at the University of Texas at Dallas. Simon is a past member of the Brandeis String Quartet and the Haydn Seek Quartet coached by Matthew Zerweck and Eric Gratz, and has progressed to the Semi-finals of the National Coltman Competition in 2019.Simon is a 2 time winner of the Brandeis High School Concerto competition, and has won auditions for masterclasses with Johannes Moser, Alan Harris, Michael Reynolds, and numerous others. In addition to the other competitions, Simon has been awarded a fellowship with the Texas Cello School, where he met and now studies with Jonah Kim, proclaimed as "The Next Yo-Yo Ma" by the Washington Post.
