Diesel Technician
CurrentI work as part of a team responsible for on-site servicing, repair and maintenance of heavy earthmoving and mining equipment at the BHP, Olympic Dam Mining Site. Operating on a Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) roster, I am part of the maintenance crew, following the directives from managers and supervisors, while also demonstrating autonomy and independent maintenance projects within the team.My expertise includes general maintenance, addressing breakdowns, executing component changeouts and performing routine servicing of heavy, diesel equipment. Leveraging my experience with BHP, particularly with CAT2900 and 3000 underground loaders and Epiroc MT65 haul trucks, I bring valuable insights to diagnostics, fault-finding, preventative maintenance, repair processes and general servicing.My focus on safety ensures tasks are executed efficiently, minimising risks and hazards for all. In troubleshooting issues, I verify solution implementations and take immediate measures to control hazards and affected machinery until deficiencies or unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.I regularly review technical information from reference manuals, technical bulletins and computer-based systems. Embracing a team-oriented approach, I work towards meeting all daily safety, equipment reliability and maintenance compliance targets for each project.Effective communication is in my core, particularly when I provide technical information and reports to senior staff, team members and operations personnel. Additionally, I am part of the team responsible for ordering parts and equipment through BHP outlined procedures. In summary, my role involves servicing, diagnostics, fault finding, repairs and scheduled maintenance of company-owned mobile on-site diesel plant equipment. This involves both workshop-based duties and addressing infield breakdowns in the unique and challenging conditions of a major South Australian mining site, characterised by dry, dusty and hot environments.
