About Simon Sanchez
Simon is a PhD researcher at Michigan State University where his uses insects to detect cancer and endometriosis. Much like how dogs are used to detect explosives or narcotics, insects have an exceptional sense of smell but unlike dogs that need to be trained to give a binary yes or no signal, Simon can can use insects and their brain signals to detect volatile chemical gas mixtures related to different diseases. He was awarded the National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) in 2022.
