Gaining my City & Guilds in the painting and decorating industry, I was self employed from the age of 17 and diversified in order to keep working during slack periods within the building industry. In my years of employment I have experienced many diverse jobs, including, kitchen deep cleaning, building supplier assistant, workshop joiner, warehouse sales, grounds maintenance, and sales representative for varied companies, I have worked for the West Midlands Fire Service for 25 years, starting as a General Assistant, then a Maintenance Assistant then as Maintenance Manager. I now hold the post of Assistant Building Surveyor, managing the Reactive maintenance work across the Service's Building stock, formulating specifications etc for tendering and running rolling Contracts, employing contracts for the work and delegating to in house maintenance. I attend pre and post contract meetings and manage the expectations of the Service through site visits and surveying ongoing projects and snagging inspections. Compiling of quotations and the authorising of payment for work, equipment and materials to best value and keeping of electronic records to comply with Key Point Indicators.Recently changed positions and role within the Service to 'Assistant Surveyor', liaising with the Surveyor team and maintenance and concentrate on surveying and prioritise all building defects on the reactive and preventative level.
