Not satisfied with just the one job, I worked shifts at the Hull Daily Mail offices at Blundell's Corner. Working in the Art Studio on an evening my role was to back up the creative team producing Ads for many publications including Motor Mail, Hull Daily Mail and The Journal (a little more refined). Young and full of energy I would head off to the mail offices after a full days work and still have enough energy to produce numerous classified and display adverts and Special publication pages.A deserted art studio was the perfect place for a young creative talent and the Hull Daily mail circulation increased because of all my hard work, I am sure about it! :)This was my first introduction to Adobe Illustrator. I was a seasoned Freehand Follower/Disciple and to this day still haven't come to terms with Illustrator taking their crown as creative application of choice. The best paste repeat programme ever! and the simplistic joy of putting text on a circle. Still call Illustrator Freehand occasionally. Old Habits die hard.Lasted 4 years before the energy levels stated depleting, plus everyone deserves a social life!Valuable experience in a busy, fast paced, deadline led environment. Met some nice people too.

I started my career working within a busy printing environment which gave me a solid understanding of print production, materials, finishing techniques and typography.Managing a studio of one I was responsible for taking concepts through to finished print which also included film processing and plate making. This was in the wonderful days of drawing boards, masking tape, Letraset sheets and Rotring pens (with and without bent nibs), and cut and paste was nothing like what ot means today, you literally 'cut it out 'by hand and pasted it on a piece or artboard with a good slathering of cow gum or wax. Not forgetting typesetting machines, with a choice of two fonts (Times or Helvetica) and camera rooms, where the cameras were bigger than some of todays smallest cars. Oh how things have changed! No tired computer eyes in the 1980’s. Fish and Chips every Friday lunchtime followed with a quick game of darts behind the Heidelberg. A background that has served me well to this day!
