Boddingtons Ltd purchased Acorn Planting Products Ltd in August 2009. Boddingtons Ltd had a turnover of c. £5m & was a global leader in the manufacturing and conversion of extruded plastic meshes, nets and tapes. Acorn Planting Products was run as a separate division of Boddingtons Ltd, with all manufacturing remaining in Loddon, customer services and accounts being relocated to Boddingtons’ offices in Maldon, Essex.• Following the sale of Acorn to Boddingtons, remained as Senior Manager to integrate the manufacturing division, delivered training to; customer services, engineering and sales departments; developed a product training manual to resolve minor queries, produced Manufacturing Guide & Cost Analysis system • Full integration of two companies IT systems utilising Microsoft Dynamics, bringing all staff onto the same system and automating back office functions to create consistency with process and time efficiencies; • Overcoming resistance to change, working with the Board and overall workforce to secure buy in; • Successfully led integration of Acorn Planting Products into Boddingtons UK Ltd;• Transferred processing/accounts systems to Microsoft Dynamics, optimisation of standard templates;• Introduced new stock control, WIP and Purchase Ordering systems as part of Microsoft Dynamics;• Determined KPIs for the new division, alongside the Sales and Finance Directors;• Rationalised and integrated the supply chain, removing duplication wherever possible;• Introduced Six Sigma and Lean principles, recruited and trained Sales and Loddon Site Managers.• Product cost analysis. Founded in 1981, Acorn Planting Products was a specialist manufacturer of a large range of plastic Tree Shelters, Guards & ancillary products, manufactured in Norfolk using a variety of processes. The seasonal nature of this industry dictated a variable annual turnover of c.£1.2m (of which 80% was sold over a 5-month “high season”). On acquisition of the company’s majority shareholding in 2006, I became directly responsible for all commercial aspects of the business. • Directly responsible for all commercial aspects of the business, sole decision maker for strategy, property leases, business taxation, auditing, accounts, commercial banking and insurance;• Leading the industry. Introduced a range of biodegradable products together with a UK wide recycling scheme for used products, an industry first;• Accountable for all product development. Consultancy for new product design, introduced biodegradable versions of existing products to market, including initial design and ordering of new plant;• Environmental solutions. Reduced landfill costs by 80%, saved £5K year through improved recycling;• Cost savings. Introduction of energy efficient Plant & Production Practices, saving over £10K per year.• In accordance with the shareholders’ wishes, appointing accountants and solicitors to handle the sale of the business; ensuring this process remained confidential; protecting trade & our customers.
