The Chief Executive of Aviation New Zealand leads a small team to support its members across the aviation sector. The role is responsible for all aspects of strategy development and execution as defined by the Aviation New Zealand Council.

The CEO is responsible to the Board for the leadership and management of the NZACA operations, members and employees. The position is also responsible for representing the interests of members by building relationships with government, other political parties and public sector agencies. Key achievements to date • Leadership of the sector through the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. Managed multiple challenges and fast-moving issues to emerge with the ARC industry’s reputation strengthened and enhanced. • Stewardship of the historic and often complex Pay Equity Settlement for aged care workers. This was finalised in 2017 and resulted in a $2 billion investment by government to lift caregiver wages and transform the sector. A new process is now underway for Pay Equity beyond 2022. • Negotiated successful outcomes for the annual ARC contracts with then DHBs, now Te Whatu Ora (total $1.6 billion to $2 billion annually). • Developed working relationships and high levels of trust with Ministers of the Crown and the Director-General of Health. • Has established the NZACA as the highly visible and respected ‘voice of aged care’ across all media. The issues of the sector are now better understood and appreciated by the public, officials, and politicians. In doing so, has developed, and maintained trusted and accessible relationships with many senior journalists across print, radio, and TV. • Critical policy wins in a range of areas not only in aged care, but also in immigration, workforce, and regulation. A chief advocate for the 2021 Resident Visa that transformed the lives of many migrant workers. • Increased NZACA membership to achieve more than 90% industry participation for a voluntary membership body, one of the highest penetration rates for a peak sector organisation in New Zealand. • Developed, grown and mentored office team to become a group of highly performing policy, data, insight, event, marketing, and administration practitioners.

In addition to leading the policy programme for TIA, extra responsibilities have included taking charge of a major research and insight function for the organisation aimed at driving a culture change in the tourism industry to value and use inisght to aid business decsion-making.

A core team member for the Tourism 2025 strategic growth framework www.tourism2025.org.nz that was led by Martin Snedden. Involved in the detailed research work to generate the hypothesis eventually taking the lead on the plan's articulation and final product and launch to the tourism industry. Managed the policy programme for TIA with a focus on achieving outcomes that deliver bottom-line benefits for member businesses. The policy areas are broad and deep that require effective networks with industry, politicians and government agencies at all levels. This role also involved concerted lobbying work with bothe central and local government and management of key stakeholder relationships.

Monitored performance of health-related Crown Entities against agreed measures set out in Statement of Intents. The role included relationship management with the Chief Executives and senior management of Crown Entities, addressing underperformance, setting annual budgets and reporting in writing and verbally to Ministers on this performance.

Advisor to the Minister on issues related mainly to the health portfolio, although called upon for advice in other portfolio areas, such as immigration and rural affairs as required. Managed Minister’s relationships with the Prime Minister’s office, other Ministers offices, government agencies and other external stakeholders as well as advising Minister on answers to official information (OIA) requests. oral and written parliamentary questions and other House matters, includng select committees. The wrok also involved speech writing for the Minister's Associate Health portfolio.

The work programme included policy matters related to superannuation and the age of entitlement, benefit to work programmes and immigration.
