As part of the Welfare Team I provide Support to soldiers and their families as a vital part of maintaining the morale of troops on the front line in order to ensure they are fit and able to undertake operations.The British Army therefore has a requirement to provide core training for Welfare Teams in order to equip them with the skills and knowledge to provide essential welfare support for Service Personnel and the military community as a whole. The training i have received is split into two parts. A 5 day Part 1 course which is completed by over 400 Unit Welfare SNCO’s and Officers each year and a 4 day Part 2 course The courses cover subjects such as:• Mental health first aid• Safeguarding children• Domestic abuse• Housing issues• Loss and bereavement• Service Charities• Army Welfare Policy• Child Support Agency• Veterans welfareTraining also includes development of listening and responding skills, and understanding the role of supporting agencies. This training is provided by PEARSON TQ and they always endeavour to ensure that the course content and delivery prepares welfare staff fully for the demands and stresses of their critically important role.

1. He is responsible to the OC of his Company for the accurate preparation of all Company returns, demands and documents other than those of the Company Sergeant- Major, and that they are rendered punctually at the time given. He will keep a list of documents showing date required, and to whom rendered. He will keep a nominal roll of every man in his Company, showing in detail all information which is required. 2. He will keep separate lists of all public, and Company property in possession of the Company, showing distribution and date of each article, and will bring to notice any that are unserviceable, or that have wear and tear.3. He will personally receive and give over all arms, equipment, clothing, necessaries, accommodation, for the Company, carefully noting all damages and deficiencies. He will see that every article is properly marked before issue. He will attend barrack inspections and record any damage for repair.4. He will obtain the signature of NCOs in charge of rooms for the bedding in each room, and will witness the transfer in all cases where a change in the NCO in charge takes place. The signature of every NCO and man will be obtained for the bedding in his possession. 5. He will take all inventories of effects of men reported absent or admitted to hospital, or detention, and will see that the effects are returned to Company store. 6. He will keep a book for each Battalion tradesman, so articles can be taken to the workshops for repair accompanied by the book. The trades- man will initial the receipt, enter the charge for repair, and return the book. For accounting purposes.7. When any man is transferred to another company or unit, his document will be rendered to on the day of transfer. 8. He is responsible for the cleanliness of cookhouses, latrines, etc., in possession, or vicinity, of his Company. He will reduce barrack damages to a minimum, and will see that all charges are paid for by individuals responsible.

Normally, a Platoon Sergeant has somewhere between 10-15 years of military service. And have combat experience. In addition, the Platoon Sergeant previously served as a Lance Corporal and Section Commander i.e Team Leaders. they are a seasoned NCO with plenty of realworld experience.# 1 Individual Training: The Platoon Sergeant is responsible for the individual training. Ensuring each Soldier is proficient in their Soldiering skills.# 2 Enforce Standards: he is disciplinarian in the platoon. He enforces all Army standards he handles most issues directly with the Soldiers and their platoon Leader.# 3 Handle Soldier Issues: Whenever a Soldier has an issue. He helps resolve Soldier issues that the Platoon Leaders can’t handle. This could be pay problems, personnel problems and anything else.# 4 Personnel Accountability: He must know where their Soldiers are at all times. They maintain personnel accountability. # 5 Soldier Welfare: This includes their health and morale. And Sometimes working during non-duty hours. To check on their Soldiers’ quality of life.# 6 Physical Fitness: He is responsible to ensure their Soldiers maintain physical fitness When Soldiers fail to achieve this he helps them meet the standard.# 7 Maintenance: A Platoon Sergeant is to maintain the platoon’s equipment. He runs the platoon maintenance program.# 8 Soldier Development: He must ensure his Soldiers are developed for positions of increased responsibility. by mentoring their subordinate NCOs, ensuring Soldiers receive formal and informal education on a variety of subjects.# 9 Administration: He handles counselling, awards, promotions, pay issues and other administrative tasks for his soldiers. # 10 Prepare Troops for Combat: this is the most important Platoon Sergeant duty They must ensure their Soldiers are physically and emotionally prepared to deploy to war. They must ensure their Soldiers are and are mentally and physically tough.

Kenya we had 135 LECs, who with the assistance of a small team were responsible for providing a safe place to train for light forces, and elements of the Joint Helicopter Force, who conduct live and dry training on land that includes mountains, dry and arid terrain and jungle.The team use helicopters to clear people and wildlife from range danger areas, while liaising with the Kenya Defence Force and local communities to ensure the safety of exercising troops and the local population. This includes Samburu tribesman, whose bushcraft is second to none, and our troops have learned many important lessons on tracking, which they have put into good effect in countering improvised explosive devices on operations. Our LECs also carry out mandatory compliance checks and preventative maintenance in three major camps, with over 400 assets which support deployed troops.Asia

BRITISH ARMY TRAINING UNIT KENYA (BATUK)BATUK is a permanent training support unit based mainly in Nanyuki, 200 km north of Nairobi, but with a small element in Nairobi. BATUK provides demanding training to exercising units preparing to deploy on operations or assume high-readiness tasks. BATUK consists of around 100 permanent staff and reinforcing short tour cohort of another 280 personnel.Under an agreement with the Kenyan Government, up to six infantry battalions per year carry out eight-week exercises in Kenya.

Catterick Camp, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom

ITC Catterick runs four versions of the Combat Infantryman's Course: Line Infantry, Foot Guards, PARAs, Gurkha.The Combat Infantryman's Course builds up skills and fitness at a gradual pace. This involves learning individual skills first, followed by Section and then Platoon skills, ending with an assessment in all subjects of which you have to be able to pass.During training, recruits are taught the importance of discipline, integrity, loyalty and respect for others. They learn that being a soldier is about putting others first and having the courage to know the right thing to do in any given situation.

The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers is an infantry regiment of the British Army, part of the Queen's Division. Currently, the regiment has two battalions: the 1st battalion, part of the Regular Army, is an armoured infantry battalion based in Tidworth, Wiltshire, and the fifth battalion, part of the Army Reserve, is based across the northeast of England. There are also a number of independent Reservist Fusilier sub-units based across England. Whilst the Fusiliers traditionally recruited in specific counties, today, as an English regiment, the Fusiliers recruit nationally. The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers was largely unaffected by the infantry reforms that were announced in December 2004, but under the Army 2020 reduction in size of the Army, its second battalion was merged into the first in 2014.

Winchester, Hampshire, United Kingdom

The Army Training Regiment Winchester is located on the north west outskirts of Winchester in Hampshire. It delivers phase 1 training over the duration of 14 weeks for Standard Entry recruits. the 14-week training course (known as the Common Military Syllabus) which is completed by all adult (age 17+) recruits when they join the Army.The course is designed to develop the individual and team skills in a progressive manner, preparing recruits for their Phase 2 training, where they learn the specific skills for their chosen Army trade. Basra Iraq

Operation Telic (Op TELIC) was the codename under which all of the United Kingdom's military operations in Iraq were conducted between the start of the Invasion of Iraq on 19 March 2003 and the withdrawal of the last remaining British forces on 22 May 2011. The bulk of the mission ended on 30 April 2009 but around 150 troops, mainly from the Royal Navy, remained in Iraq until 22 May 2011 as part of the Iraqi Training and Advisory Mission. 46,000 troops were deployed at the onset of the invasion and the total cost of war stood at £9.24 billion in 2010.

Afghanistan

Operation Herrick is the codename under which all British operations in the War in Afghanistan were conducted from 2002 to the end of combat operations in 2014. It consisted of the British contribution to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), and support to the American-led Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). Since 2003, Operation Herrick has increased in size and breadth to match ISAF's growing geographical intervention in Afghanistan.
