I work in an IT Support role with BT. I am based in Chippenham and also work in Bristol some of the time. I commute to these locations from my home in Swindon.I take advantage of all the training and study opportunities that are made available both through work and privately through other providers.In recent years I have attained the Open University Certificate in Computing and Information Technology (Cert IT & Comp (Open) - Awarded July 2009), the Open University Certificate in Computing & Mathematics (Cert Comp & Maths (Open) - Awarded October 2012).I have completed modules T175 – Networked living; exploring information and communication technologies, M150 – Data, computing and information and MU123 - Discovering mathematics.To develop my skills and stay sharp I use online study - mostly Pluralsight, Udemy, Linkedin Learning and ACI Learning. I have recently been following the CS50 series on edX.Specialities: Website development, IT Services. Learning Python. I enjoy IT networking courses. I would like to obtain formal certification in these areas in the future.In December 1982 I sat and passed the Radio Amateur's Examination and since then have held a UK amateur radio licence. I have been a member of the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) since 1975, having started out in the traditional way as a Short Wave Listener ("SWL") the previous year. Although most amateur radio traffic is voice and data these days I can still read and send Morse Code as long as it is not sent too quickly!In 1998 I passed the Advanced Driving Test and became a full member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). I am also a member of the local IAM RoadSmart group - Swindon Advanced Motorists.I have affiliate membership of the British Computer Society (BCS) and would like to upgrade this to complement my membership of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS).Other interests include being a member of the King's English Society with the aim of improving the clarity and effectiveness of my written and spoken communication.

Career ChangerBt Group Jul 2007 - Mar 2009Following structural changes within BT Procurement & Supply Chain I joined the newly established BT Transition Centre (BTTC) which provided me with new opportunities to diversify and extend my ICT and general management skills, taking advantage of new methods of career management such as the Professional Communities scheme. Along with other "ad hoc" projects during this period I undertook a 90 day assignment within the BT Global Services Major Programmes Practice gaining experience with Process Pad Process Modelling Software during which time an existing process was successfully transferred into this format.Also during this time:• Managed the development of a database to record contract savings, developing my understanding of the principles of relational databases.• Established a web portal for the BT Global Sourcing Centre of Excellence.• Developed an interim web site for redeployment in BT Procurement & Supply Chain, helping me to build a relationship with the manager of the Transition Centre.• Proactively and successfully managed time and activities as a “career changer” by networking with colleagues and obtained an assignment within the BT Global Services Major Programmes Practice (DFTS).

Intranet DeveloperBt Nov 1998 - Jun 2007Maintaining and updating the BT Procurement & Supply Chain intranet pages, working as part of a team. These were the early days when tools such as Dreamweaver were used to carry out site management. Over time, this work inevitably became more centralised using content management tools, but the experience gained during these years laid the foundation for working in the wider field of IT support.
