Mental Health Advanced Practitioner And Bia/Deprivation Of Liberty Safeguard Assessor

Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom

This is a new role that has been established to support the discharge of older adults who have been sectioned under the Mental Health Act 1983 and detained in an inpatient unit, back into the community to live a full and healthy life. A key part of my role is to challenge the stigma (amongst social care/health professionals and the wider community) related to diagnosed mental health conditions and to develop creative ways that older adults can live safely in society again, in their own home or in residential environments (if needed). The current pathways for vulnerable adults who have a functional mental health diagnosis are mostly risk adverse and involve institutionalisation. It is an exciting time to be working with our NHS partners (predominantly various mental health teams) to form quality, person centred care post discharge plans and to prevent re-detainment.
