The NSW State Council is responsible for:* Providing input, at the direction of the Board, into the development of Governance Institute’s strategic plan;* Providing advice and assistance to the relevant State Director, in the implementation of Governance Institute’s strategy and services in the State;* Acting as ambassadors for Governance Institute; and* Any specific direction from the Board.

In this role I am actively involved in assisting both AFS Licensees and RSE Licensees in meeting their ongoing governance, compliance and risk management obligations; a process which includes: * Interpreting legislation, regulations and regulatory guidance material, and liaising with regulators and industry bodies, on behalf of clients.* Advising clients of their obligations, and assisting them to meet them.* Facilitating board performance evaluations and risk management workshops.* Developing and reviewing member/client documentation and internal policies and procedures.* Assisting clients to prepare for and respond to prudential reviews conducted by the various regulators, including APRA, ASIC, ATO, and AUSTRAC. * Undertaking gap analyses of governance, compliance, and risk management monitoring and reporting structures, including analysis of the extent to which internal policies and procedures meet applicable prudential standards and guidance.* Constructing compliance, risk management and incident reporting templates.* Completing regular compliance and risk management reports and presenting these reports to internal compliance officers / company secretaries and compliance committees.* Undertaking projects associated with transferring manual governance, compliance and risk management reporting frameworks into suitable software programs, and training clients on their use and application. Achievements* Following over six years of employment as a Consultant, I was offered the opportunity to become a Director of PFS.* Successfully established and managed the governance, compliance and risk management practice within PFS, including appointment and management of three staff members.* Appointed as External Compliance Advisor to a number of mid-tier industry and corporate superannuation funds.* Established relationships with key regulators; policy, research and advocacy bodies; and compliance and risk management software providers.
