Dr. Simone Schmid, is currently a Post-Doctoral Researcher/ Fellow at the Hawaii State Department of Health, Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Division in the Surveillance, Evaluation and Epidemiologist Office, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa, School for Social Work and Public Health, Office of Public Health Studies. Simone Schmid successfully defender her dissertation " Program Evaluation of AccesSurf Hawaii, an adaptive surf, swim and canoe program for people with disabilities" in March 2021, at the University of Hawai'i (UH) at Manoa. She successfully completed a second masters (Physical Activity and Health) in Erlangen, Germany, which is her special interest within Health Promotion in 2016. She finished her masters in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in London in 2014. Her special interest focus was on Environment and Health as well as Health Promotion.She has been supporting the Health Procurement Team at UNOPS headquarter´s in Copenhagen after her assignment at the World Health Organization where she has been working for the strategic partnership office for 9 months (2012/2013).She holds a bachelor degree in Health Care Management/ Health Economics from the University of Bayreuth, Germany.Simone also gained practical experiences during her internship at the Royal Rehabilitation Centre in Sydney and at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore. During her undergraduates she has been working at the Medicine Department of her University and has been a student abroad in America to broaden her knowledge in Alternative Medicine/ Nutrition and Nursing for two semesters. Simone is fluent in German and English. She has been engaged in voluntary work e.g. for AccesSurf Hawai`i, at the World Youth Day in Sydney, mentoring the commodity team “Equal Opportunities” and the “Medicine and Ethcics in Health Care”. In her leisure time she also pursues her passions for sports, and has been seen coaching the UN Dragonboat team. She also enjoys visiting friends and family.
