My regular tasks included: assisting in the organisation of junkets, launches and press days with talent; distributing assets to journalists as the first point of contact for their queries and press requests; compiling press reports; facilitating phone interviews; accompanying contributors to live television recordings; writing and distributing programme information/press releases; and interviewing talent for press packs… Show more My first job out of university was working in the Channel 5 press office. I edited the articles which our writers submitted and tailored them to fit in the paper with photographs. I liaised with publicists for press tickets/interview opportunities, and distributed these to my team of writers at our weekly meetings, where I led the discussions about the content we should include in the next issue. Lancaster

I obtained a placement at the Lancaster Guardian through a writing competition. I conducted interviews both on the phone and in person, and wrote lead articles regularly (including one on page 3). On my second day, there was a double murder which I reported on – I appeared on North West Tonight interviewing the police at the official press conference. I continued to do freelance work for the Lancaster Guardian up until leaving university.

I received my first paid TV credit as a runner for BAFTA-winning production company Nine Lives Media, working on the set-up, filming and edit of crime reconstruction doc Nightmare in Suburbia (series 5).

As the manager of a jazz band made up of five students, I secured all of the 24 events the band played at, such as weddings, Masons’ evenings and at Nunsmere Hall, a frequent winner of ‘hotel of the year’ awards. Communicating with clients, creating promotional videos and sorting out the band’s finances were all completely my responsibility.
