About Simon Lamb

Simon is a motivated Chartered Civil Engineer with an extensive background in highway and infrastructure development, design and adoption. Simon is currently at Cardiff University progressing his PhD research in Digital Construction Informatics Management (inc. Building Iinformation Modelling) with a view to creating a paradigm shift in data interrogation for Major Highway Projects on behalf of the Welsh Government. Prior to his PhD research Simon was a Senior Project Manager responsible for the coordination of pre-planning design and construction procurement for urban regeneration projects and commercial building improvements. His most notable contribution was the successful planning application for a high rise commercial development at 60-70 St Mary's Axe, London (aka The Can of Ham) designed by Foggo Architects.Simon also has an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development from St Edmund's College, Cambridge where his research included developing a Sustainability Assessment for UK Highway Infrastructure. Simon's synthesised framework for undertaking sustainability assessments of highway infrastructure projects was based upon utilising a questioning approach within a modality framework. Simon is also experienced in Environmental Impact Assessment as a Project Coordinator where he assessed and mitigated environmental impacts for highway and infrastructure developments through the compiling and submitting of Environmental Statements in support of planning applications.Simon's main focus as a Chartered Civil Engineer has been designing and managing Highway Infrastructure improvements both with the client side and private developers. Simon has management experience as a Team Leader for the identification and implementation of Trunk Road improvements on behalf of Highways England and as lead designer for commercial and residential developments progressing Section 278 Agreements for planning and highway adoption.In addition to Simon's extensive Highway and Research experience he is also a Major in the Army Reserves where he uses a combination of project management and airborne operation experience to add value in numerous Army HQ projects. Simon also believes in the value of introducing soldiers to 'a controlled exposure to risk' through delivering winter mountaineering and ski touring activities.
