For me, working with students brings joy to my day. Every meeting brings an opportunity to make a difference, whether it be refining a resume, helping to empower a student before an interview, finding ways to creatively network and find job opportunities, and establishing a relationship with students so that they feel heard, meaningfully assisted, and important.It is all about building positive relationships with your colleagues, your students, the faculty and employers. Without these relationships it is truly impossible to do your best work. I love the challenges of the field, finding new and better ways to facilitate personal growth and maturity as well as helping to create access to the world of work. I remember how challenging it was looking for my first job out of school and would like to ameliorate this experience for my students, helping them to feel prepared, confident and successful, because “the decisions you make about your work life are especially important, since most people spend more of their waking lives working than doing anything else. Your choices will affect, not only yourself and those closest to you, but in some way the whole world,” Laurence G. Boldt.
