iDAS Global (CSCI) is a pioneer of integrated technology solutions which can transform the financial and environmental footprints of a Central Bank’s management of the entire banknote life cycle, from design and print to destruction. These solutions have been developed in close collaboration with the Federal Reserve System and the Bank of England, and by early 2018, we also expect to have established similar engagements with the Bank of Canada, Central Bank of India and the Reserve Bank of Australia. My role with iDAS is primarily focused on business and research development, through which we leverage a unique combination of 3D vision and imaging technologies to achieve an unprecedented level of accuracy and quality in banknote inspection processes. Our work with the Federal Reserve and BoE has already evidenced that this approach can deliver a radical leap forward in terms of cash process management performance, impact and outcomes. Plus, with limited implications in terms of CapEx, our solutions offer Central Banks across the world an opportunity to remove the cost of cash from their annual P&L, thereby enhancing the use of taxpayer funding in times of economic constraint. iDAS also promotes a more ‘circular’ approach to end-of-life banknote processes (specifically ink removal and destruction), thereby opening new commercial opportunities via material recycling and reuse and improving the overall sustainability performance of cash management operations. Given the vast volume of materials involved in the life cycle of currency, the potential for achieving measurable impact and benefits for multiple stakeholders is simply enormous.

After 8 years in predominantly managerial roles, my focus has now shifted to content and an emphasis of developing the pipeline and supporting processes for ABIS' knowledge and education initiatives. Among the key objectives for our International Programmes: the scaling up and standardisation of large-scale research funding proposal development; the creation of different knowledge-based platforms to advance global corporate talent development for sustainable business; alignment of our work with long-term strategic policies and targets (in particular the European Union and UN); and thought leadership relating to transitions to new economy and sustainable living models.

As Director General, I steered ABIS' major international expansion phase, with the network growing from its European roots and of 30 global companies and 90 leading business schools & universities worldwide, with overall responsibility for The Academy's multi-million euro programme of research, learning and training initiatives. The Academy was founded in 2001-2002 by IBM, Johnson &Johnson, Microsoft, Shell and Unilever, in partnership with major schools like INSEAD, ESADE, IESE, IMD, LBS and Copenhagen. US based foundations as well as the EU Commission and corporate sponsors fund the activities. Since its launch, ABIS has delivered over 100 medium and large research initiatives and educational programmes and published over 150 papers and books on corporate responsibility and sustainability.
