Data Scientist / Software Engineer
I worked in the Computational Biology Facility (CBF) at the University of Liverpool. We work with scientists and data sources from a variety of places (e.g. fellow UoL scientists, Genomics England, DSTL) who need data science skills to be applied to their data and lack the personnel to do this. Past and current projects I have worked with include proteomics data (MS/array), microarray data, network data, social media data, genomic variant data and machine learning. Past and current projects I have worked with include proteomics data (MS/array), microarray data, network data, social media data, genomic variant data and machine learning. I write a lot of code to accomplish these projects in R and Python and occasionally the deliverable for a project is a software tool - past projects have tools that still may be used to this day. We also train students and staff in data analysis and R skills.I commonly use R/Shiny as a presentation/visualisation format for clients to explore their results and explore the type of analysis/visualisation they wish for their final results. I find this format of communication can work work very well for informed understanding of results and allows clients to browser their data at their leisure.I previously worked on mass spectrometry raw data compression methods, software development and worked part-time at Waters Corp. over a two year period. Analyst Programmer
I was a software developer based in our Warrington branch in Cheshire. The company is a world leader in providing consulting and software solutions to a wide range of scientific-based industries.I was deployed to AstraZeneca during my time there.
Proteomics & Mass Spectrometry Bioinformatician
As my first position after graduation, I was responsible for custom proteomics analyses and maintenance of software systems such as Mascot in a facility with little previous informatics support.I wrote software/code in Java to perform tasks such as MGF merging, mapping protein identifiers to secondary structure, aligning phosphorylation sites across multiple datasets and performing label-free analyses in R at a time when there was little proteomics support in R.
