About Simon Starr

My career in tech began in 1996 as a developer of multimedia CD-ROMs and websites. Following this, I expanded my expertise through roles in technical support and enterprise systems administration, enhancing my problem-solving skills and technical acumen. In 2008, I returned to web development, specialising in Ruby on Rails, marking a significant advancement in my professional trajectory.Since then I’ve developed web apps for everyone from early-stage startups to multinational corporations, launched my own startup, spent a few years running the UK’s largest Ruby conference, and gradually shifted into more managerial roles. In 2020 I became a full-time engineering manager, a position that leverages my extensive background in technology. My management style is characterised by an emphasis on creating a positive team environment, promoting psychological safety, and ensuring team satisfaction, as I consider these factors crucial for productivity and innovation. Utilising my comprehensive experience, I excel in guiding teams through the execution of complex technical projects, ensuring delivery precision, and maintaining the highest quality standards.
