We were not only aiming to improve convenience, but also safety, as the number of violent crimes, large or small involving taxi drivers increases by large numbers annually despite the government (at the times) initiatives that were being implemented, but were not improving the statistics.One of the keys ideas to the potential success of SMSCabs was owning the mind position that defines the sub-industry. This was going to provide a solid foundation for the launch of the business, with the market share to be instantly dominated by SMSCabs. Therefore, SMSCabs was likely to play a central role in the implementation process of most of the taxi service divisions within the Melbourne departments.From a technological and organisational perspective, there were two approaches to delivering these major changes:- One approach was to integrate the current service offered and used by taxi infrastructure to relay messages through a database and the taxis themselves. This could have been done quite easily, either individually one after the other or sequentially in groups; or- Another approach was to construct or own a network based computer program to deliver messages to existing taxi services.- The advantages and disadvantages of each approach had been analysed however the taxi industry leaders and their acceptability of our service was the deciding factor. After a brief period of time in operation the business ceased trading due to a variety of internal reasons.
