Student Nurse Year 2 Clinical Rotation 3 Site: Brampton Civic Hospital (Unit: Orthopedic Surgery)
Current Assists in the care of orthopedic surgery patients under the supervision of experienced nursing professionals. Participates in pre-operative and post-operative patient assessments. Monitors and records vital signs, pain levels, and other relevant patient data. Assists in the implementation of post-operative care plans, including wound care and pain management. Collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure effective communication and coordination of patient care. Participates in patient education, providing information on post-surgery recovery and rehabilitation exercises. Administers medications as directed and observes for any adverse reactions. Assists with mobilization and ambulation of post-operative orthopedic patients. Learns and follows infection control protocols specific to orthopedic surgery units. Gains exposure to orthopedic surgical procedures and becomes familiar with relevant medical equipment. Engages in ongoing learning opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to orthopedic nursing care. Adheres to ethical and professional standards in interactions with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
